Milard I (French books) 76 listing the first edition of 1650: " Considering the profound impact it had on French architectural theory, the Parallele is a deceptively simple and apparently traditional work. It deals, as did many earlier treatises, with the orders. Fréart chose to make a comparative study of each of the five architectural orders, illustrating one example taken from classical remains and six comparative modern examples of each order from the solutions proposed by six major modern architectural theorists. Each illustration is accompanied by a short explanatory text, and a long introduction presents Fréart' s explanation of the work. ... Fréart' s Parallelle could not be ignored by later architectural theorists. His comparative method was adopted in many later treatises "(Etc.). - Lacks 1 double-page plate, some pp. a bit torn, spine missing.

Koeman Lan 3 : " This French edition of the Caert-Thresoor was printed by Albert Henry in The Hague, for Cornelis Claesz . The translation is by I. de la Haye. The title page and the dedication bear no date. Poem by Bartas. In the account of the voyages of Barentsz and De Rijp to Nova Zembla on p. 202, the return of Barentsz is now mentioned. Dr. Burger says that this note is wrong, because neither Barentsz nor his ship survived. The two copies of this edition have characteristics similar to the Dutch edition of 1598, i.e. maps of Africa, America, and Magellanica are still lacking. No Map of Asia in the beginning of part two. But other characteristics are similar to the Dutch edition of 1599: degrees of latitude and longitude, maps of Java, Sumatra and Madagascar signed Benj. W(right). Under the title " Malabar " now figures map 136 of the editions of 1598-1599. For the map " Narsinga & Decan " the map " Narsinga & Ceylon " from the edition of 1598 was used. Error: At the top of p. 49, part II: " Description des Indes " instead of " Description de Japan ". ". - Lacks title, dedication (5 pp.) & ode (5 pp.) with 1 plate. The work was first published in 1741 and was revised in 1761, but it is best known in the fourth, posthumous edition of 1775. Süssmilch's theory of population was influenced by William Derham and by John Graunt and William Petty. From Derham's Physico-theology, published in London in 1713, Süssmilch took the idea that divine providence has established a balance between the size of the population and the supply of food required for subsistence: from Graunt and Petty he learned that it may be possible to discern an underlying order in vital statistics. Süssmilch's assertion of a divine order in population trends reflects the desire, shared by most eighteenth-century scientists, to detect the pattern of the "natural order "".
